After Mark & Chantal’s Wedding in Sarnia we drove through Algonquin Park to get to the cottage, and we took some time out to do a couple of short hikes. We stopped at Hardwood Lookout and at Spruce Bog Boardwalk. Both were beautiful and definitely worth doing, but it made for a much longer drive than we expected…
We went out to Kananaskis to see Elbow Falls. Sadly the falls were underwhelming, crowded, and too man-made, so we went looking for a trail to hike instead. Just around the corner from the falls is a trail called the Beaver Lodge trail. It’s a lovely walk through a pretty forest and along several Beaver ponds. Not only far better than Elbow Falls, but worthy of a hike on its own merits too!
We went hiking at Sunshine Meadows with the Nott Family and Monica (and Kenneth). The day started off great as we came across a timber wolf on the road into the base of the mountain. He was out for a morning stroll and completely ignored us while we stopped to a take a few pictures…

We packed up pretty early to go home on the last day of our camping trip because we had another engagement later in the day... We did stop to take a few pictures of the beautiful wildflower covered meadows though!
Waterton is an incredibly windy place and the wind howled all night the first night and most of the second day too. We didn't let that get to us though and we went out and enjoyed the park anyway! We checked out downtown Waterton in the morning and had lunch at the lake shore with a nice view of the Prince of Wales hotel on the hill across the lake. Waterton is a cute little town (population 70 in the winter) with several nice hotels and inns.
